This Was Sexy at One Time?

sexy-size-marilyn-monroe

In my opinion, it still is sexy. Forget that it is Marilyn Monroe, who is the embodiment of sexiness, but this size/woman is incredibly sexy and realistic. It is a sad society we live in with anorexic models are perceived as the the new sexy when this leaves young women to believe they need to have the same unrealistic measurements.

Rock on, Marilyn! You can eat crackers in my bed anytime!

Marilyn Monroe is one of the sexiest women of all time. I too wish more people felt her look was sexy.

How is Marilyn Monroe sexy? She's f###-ugly and she was a w####. She'd bang anyone that moved. I think women that size are sexy but I think you picked a bad example.

Jealous because you never be with a woman like this?? Yeah, people like you criticize at womans like she because you only can get satisfaction with your own bared hands sadly. Dont be affraid, finally you can get a pet as companion :) MM was the top most beauty does not matter the picture.

As someone who is recently single, I'm glad that less people find girls this size attractive because it makes the market that much better.

You're making a pretty bold statement here. Just because a great many models are slimmer than her doesn't mean that our bloody "society" doesn't consider her sexy anymore. It just means that those models are in demand (and the reason doesn't have to be lust). You have a very sad definition of what society is. Why don't you go ahead and ask around your town what they consider to be sexier instead of believing what the media tells you. Really what you're doing is, "OMG everyone on TV and stuff says she's fat so society thinks so too!!"

Firstly, I quite shocked that you could actually believe what you've written.

Secondly, please tell that to all of the young women (and men) that suffer eating disorders and negative body image because society promotes an unrealistic 'ideal' of beauty. I'm sure you wouldn't find many who would consider Marilyn unattractive (she's not considered a sex-symbol for no reason), however, where are images of women like her today? So much emphasis is put on sexuality and what a woman 'should be' that people have created the likes of Bratz Dolls and other horrible representations of beauty for girls and women alike.

Your response would lead me to believe that you either are completely out of touch with ideals of beauty in society, you envy those rail-thin women/muscular men in the media, or you suffer from negative body image yourself.

Sex appeal in both genders has more to do with confidence and personality than body type. MM was hardly a knockout physically, really just a little prettier than average. It was her confidence and personality that made her a star, just like Mae West a generation before.

Do you think there were men in the 50's who lamented that society didn't find thin women attractive? There were.

Plenty of men find the equivalent of this body type attractive today, including you apparently. So be it. How is what your society finds attractive in any way relevant to your life?

Realistic? Are you fucking kidding me!!!??? Marilyn's body is ANYTHING but realistic! She was a DD and had a hip circumference of 34-35 inches, but with a waist size of around 20 inches!!! Her waist size is about the same as most models today, she just has a bigger bust and hips, giving her the classic hourglass figure. Also, a recent study showed that only about 12% of women actually have that figure, yeah her measurements aren't unrealistic at all, right....

Also, to make matters worse, a woman's figure is something you CAN'T change. You can loose or gain weight as much weight as you want, but you can't change your body type ("apple", "pear," "string bean," "hourglass") to another because it all comes down to genetics.

Instead of idealizing only ONE type of body (super skinny or your example of Monroe), every shape and size should be celebrated! That is the only way, because no one is made the same way, we are all different.

    • Sam says:

Oh, and those measurements are not a modern day 6. A six would drown me. If it fits your bust/hips and doesn't fit your waist, that doesn't make you that size. You'd have to have custom clothes and it wouldn't be far to be called a six, when your waist is a 0.

This size sexy? The above photo of Marilyn in her white swimsuit was taken when she was almost four months pregnant. Does that mean four-months pregnant women are the ideal size to aspire to?

Also, Sophie, some of the information you posted was incorrect. Marilyn was never a DD. Based on her bra sizes, she was a B and C cup. According to her wardrobe assistant, she used to pad her bras, and used some interesting techniques involving sewing in buttons to make her breasts look more prominent then they actually were.

The measurements listed were also incorrect. Although the studio released her measurements as being 37-23-36, her waist was actually around 24-25 inches (her under bust 35 inches, again, according to the bras she wore). Although much of Marilyn's wardrobe was personally crafted by her seamstresses, according to measurements of her clothing, on average, she was a modern-day size six. At her heaviest size (when she was pregnant), she was a modern-day size ten. Moreover, based on her measurements and body type, Marilyn was actually a pear-shape. So much for being the perfect representation of an hourglass...

    • Sam says:

Marilyn was 37-24/25-37(studio measurements usually trim an inch from the waist and the hips, large hips were not super fashionable) which is an hourglass shape, not pear. And hourglass can look pear shaped depending on what half of her body is emphasized, but she was an hourglass. It's impossible for someone to have a 24 inch waist and 35 inch underbust. Her underbust was a 28 MAX. I would know. Being 37-24-37 myself, I wear a 26HH/28H bra. Marilyn would have been very similar, though poor thing knew nothing about bra sizing, just like you don't. She was far larger than a DD. A DD is not even big. It just mean 5 inches larger than the underbust. But since most people incorrectly add 4-6 inches to their underbust measurement before figuring their cup size, therein lies the problem. http://blog.butterflycollection.ca/2012/05/bra-school-not-all-d-cups-are-same-size.html

SHE ALWAYS WAS AND ALWAYS WILL BE THE SEXIEST WOMAN WHO EVER LIVED. AS A GUY LET ME TELL YOU LADIES, SEXY IS IN THE MIND, THE TOUCH, THE HEART AND THE ABILITY TO LOVE UN-CONDITIONALLY.
THIS IS NOT TO SAY THAT A WOMAN OR MAN SHOULD EVER STOP CARING FOR THEMSELVES PHYSICALLY. BUT WHEN ALL IS SAID AND DONE I WANT TO WAKE UP TO A WOMEN THAT LOVES ME MORE THAN SHE LOVES HERSELF. I WILL DO THE SAME IN RETURN.

  10. Meh says:

Marilyn Monroe had a great deal of surgeries to help her keep "sexy". Wishing more people would find that sexy is just as shallow and wrong as girls wishing to be skinny. How about you get over women's bodies already? You don't see us beating men down for their pecs not being square enough.
